When I’m shopping for home gadgets, I’m all about finding something that adds a touch of charm to my space. That’s why I couldn’t resist picking up the Taotronics TT-AH038 model—it’s adorable with its whale-shaped design even though I am an adult.
Once I got it home, my nephew immediately wanted to claim it for himself. But beyond its cute appearance, I wanted to see how well it actually performs. Is it easy to clean? Does it live up to its charming looks? Stick around—I’ll spill all the details in this review.
I notice that Taotronics also sells their humidifiers under the brand name PARIS RHÔNE on some websites. Except for the branding, the designs are identical. Therefore, they are expected to have the same performance.

Humidification Performance 8
This isn’t my first time trying out a Taotronics humidifier. I’ve had experience with their classic AH-001 model before, which boasted a solid output of 225ml.
But when I switched to this cute whale-shaped AH038 model, I expected a slight decrease in output due to its smaller 2.5L water tank. I figured I’d be looking at around 150ml output.
However, my testing results left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. The output measured in at only 118ml, which is pretty low compared to other models I’ve tested.
For instance, the Canopy humidifier with a similar tank size managed an output of 133ml, while even the Bear humidifier, in the same price range, produced a more substantial 162ml.
The limited output of this model makes it best suited for small rooms. It’s ideal for spaces smaller than 127 sq. ft.
I wouldn’t recommend using it in areas larger than 158 sq. ft. as it struggles to maintain a comfortable humidity level in such spaces, according to our calculations.
In my 160 sq. ft. bedroom, I didn’t notice a significant difference on my skin after running the humidifier for one night. (My room humidity is around 40% initially.)
I recommend running it at the maximum level when you first use it to gauge its effectiveness. Afterward, you can decide if you need to adjust it to a lower setting during the night.
It’s difficult to over-humidify your home with this humidifier.
Honestly, I always set it to the highest level. After all, it’s quite quiet.
Ease Of Cleaning 9
Since it’s an ultrasonic humidifier, I prefer to fill it with distilled or RO water to avoid the white dust issue. Although the manufacturer doesn’t explicitly prohibit the use of tap water, I’d rather not take the risk.
Cleaning this model is generally straightforward, thanks to its large opening. It allows easy access for wiping down the tank with a damp cloth.
The included small brush comes in handy for cleaning the base’s nooks and crannies.
However, there are two areas that require more attention: the nozzle and the tube. While rinsing them under running water usually suffices, I’ve found that removing the muffler connected to the tube can be tricky.
For thorough cleaning of the tube’s interior, I resort to using a long toothbrush to dislodge any debris.
As for the nozzle, it is also hard to detach. I use a cotton swab to clean its interior. It’s a bit more time-consuming to access these parts, but it’s not impossible.

Many babies are sensitive to noise, and the last thing you want is for them to wake up due to the operation of a humidifier.
Although ultrasonic humidifiers are generally quiet, this particular model stands out as one of the quietest among them. It is hard to hear any humming noise of the motor or the dripping sound of water.
Even better, the noise level remains consistent regardless of the mist level. In other words, even when set to the highest mist level, the machine remains whisper quiet.
Some ultrasonic humidifiers may produce slight noise.
For instance, the Vicks filter-free model can emit a humming noise that is noticeable when sitting very close to it, while the Geniani portable humidifier may make a sound of water coming out from the atomizer.
These minor noises don’t bother me personally, but for light sleepers who are sensitive to such sounds, this humidifier could be an ideal choice.

This humidifier is small and adorable. Its white and blue color combination gives it a lively appearance. The size is comparable to the Canopy humidifier (10.7″D x 7.4″W x 11″H), and it has a small footprint.
With its quiet operation, it’s perfect for placing on the bedside.
What really got me hooked is its whale-shaped design. I mean, how cute is that? And get this: the tail is soft to the touch. It’s not just for show either; it’s fun to play with, and my nephew loves it too.
It’s lightweight too, which makes it great for taking along on trips in the RV. Overall, it’s just a delight to have around.
The water tank is only 2.5L, so you’ll need to refill it about every 18 hours or so. And while the manufacturer says it can run for up to 30 hours, I’ve found that if you want to keep the mist level up, you’ll be running it on high most of the time.

On high mode with the nightlight on, the wattage is around 16.5 watts, while on low mode it’s about 10.2 watts.
Compared to the Crane 4-in-1 model I’ve tested, the energy consumption is quite similar, but that one has a higher output (148ml). Still, humidifiers aren’t big electricity guzzlers anyway.
Now, let’s talk price. It’s pretty affordable. I’ve noticed that Taotronics offers good value with many of their models. If this one doesn’t quite tick all your boxes, I’m sure you’ll find something budget-friendly on their website.
What Set This Taotronics TT-AH038 Cool Mist Humidifier Apart?
The unit is compatible with essential oil and BPA-Free
While many people believe diffusers and humidifiers are essentially the same, they differ in several key aspects. Most humidifiers are not designed to accommodate essential oils in their water tanks.
Adding essential oils can corrode the materials, leading to potential leaks. Unless explicitly stated by the manufacturer, it’s best to avoid doing so.
In my experience testing over 50 humidifiers, it’s uncommon to find models that allow the direct addition of essential oils to the water tank.
Typically, humidifiers with a diffusion function utilize a separate oil tray, dispersing scents through airflow.
The fact that this water tank allows for the addition of essential oils speaks volumes about its durability.
Moreover, the plastic used is BPA-free. When choosing products for kids or moms, we’re usually more cautious, and this material guarantees their safety.
Adjustable nightlight
Nightlight is a common feature of a humidifier. When I use it for the first few times, I didn’t notice that the brightness is adjustable. This is not so common to see.
For example, the Crane 4-in-1 offers a few colors of nightlight, but the brightness is not changeable. For the Levoit 300s model, there are a two brightness level available, but I can’t adjust it as I want.
For this model, by pressing the nightlight button for more than 1.5 second, I was able to adjust the brightness from weak to strong, or from strong to weak.
Beyond that, the machine can remember the brightness setting. It will automatically show the brightness I want the next time I press the nightlight button.
It’s perfect for those who need a little light at night or want to check on their kids without disturbing them.
