Takeaway:

A Versatile Humidifier: Its standout feature for me is the hassle-free cleaning, thanks to the easily detachable tube – a real game-changer. Plus, the colorful nightlight and gentle buzz sound are charming additions. The only drawback? The output could be higher.

Why you can trust this review: I purchased this Crane Drop 4-in-1 ultrasonic humidifier with our own money, took pictures, and spent two weeks testing it.

Crane is a brand based in the US that specializes in manufacturing humidifiers, air purifiers, and sinus inhalers. Their Drop humidifier series and Adorables humidifier series are popular in the market.

Within the Drop series, the 4-in-1 model stands out for its multifunctionality, prompting me to explore its features and performance. Continue reading this review to discover my findings on this versatile humidifier.

Crane Drop 4-in-1 Cool Mist Humidifier Ratings Breakdown

Humidification Performance 8.5?

Crane Drop 4-in-1 Cool Mist Humidifier output compare

Before purchasing this humidifier, I already owned two Crane Adorables humidifiers. Given that the water tank sizes are identical, I expected this 4-in-1 humidifier to perform similarly.

However, the output of my Crane Adorables humidifiers is 184ml, while this model only manages 148ml. This output is slightly below average compared to other room humidifiers I’ve tested.

My room, approximately 160 sq. ft., felt more comfortable, and I noticed relief for my dry skin. Nonetheless, given the output results, it may not be the best option for larger spaces.

Ease Of Cleaning 10?

crane 4-in-1 drop humidifier review-ease of cleaning

Cleaning can be a daunting task for many humidifier users, often due to hard-to-reach areas or components. Fortunately, this humidifier does not present such challenges.

The water tank features a large opening, accommodating even my large hands. Unlike most models I’ve used, where a brush is necessary for cleaning, this model allows me to directly use a soft cloth, greatly simplifying the cleaning process for me.

Meanwhile, the mist tube is located on the side, and its cover is removable. Typically, the mist tube accumulates a significant amount of mineral buildup. This design significantly eases the cleaning process.

As for cleaning the base, it is not difficult. The base is shallow. Adding some diluted white vinegar into it once a week can effectively loosen the buildup.

Overall, it is one of the easiest-to-clean humidifiers I have tested.

Noise Level 10?

ModeSound Level(dB)
Low34.1
Medium34.1
High34.7

This humidifier operates quietly, even when the mist level is set to high.

Honestly, it’s quieter than many popular models. For instance, the Vicks Filter Free registers 44.1 dB on high and 44 dB on low, while the TaoTronics AH-0001 measures 36.4 dB on high and 35 dB on low.

Many people might not notice the difference because ultrasonic models are generally quiet. However, for those who are very sensitive to sound, I think my test results may be a valuable reference.

Occasionally, I might hear some minimal dripping sounds when I stand close to it, but they are negligible.

It doesn’t disturb my sleep in the slightest. In fact, I hardly notice it, even when I’m awake.

Usability 9.65?

crane 4-in-1 humidifier review-usability

While this machine can be used as a humidifier, diffuser, sound machine, and nightlight, it doesn’t feel complicated to use for me.

This machine is almost ready to use straight out of the box. By attaching the cord and nozzle, this humidifier is ready to go.

By pressing the large power button in the middle, I could easily turn the machine on and off and select the mist level.

The button on the left activates the sound machine, which includes three types of sounds: white noise, rain sound, and ocean sound. By pressing and holding the button, the volume will increase from low to high and cycle. Upon releasing the button, the volume will be set.

The button on the right controls the nightlight. There are several colors available, and the default color is red when pressed once.

The humidifier also includes an indicator light, which can automatically turn off after a while. This is a great feature because some models I have tested have an indicator light that stays on while the device is working, which can be annoying for many people.

Unlike many models that feature an oil tray on the outside of the base, this one has a tray inside the base, located beside the vent.

I consulted the instruction manual when I wanted to adjust the volume of the sound machine. Other functionalities were easily figured out by myself.

Aside from that, thanks to its top-fill feature, refilling is very easy. There is a small, transparent handle on the tank for when you need to lift it.

Just a reminder: the nozzle on top is easy to move. I dropped it when moving the whole unit to the sink.

Build Quality 9?

The build quality of this model is good. Given that it is fully disassemblable (more on that later), it features more components than simpler models. However, each component is well-crafted without any rough edges.

One area for improvement might be the gap between the nozzle and the water tank. Mist escaping from this gap isn’t a major issue, though.

I appreciate the transparent water tank for its aesthetic appeal. However, its walls are not as thick as those of the Vornado EVDC500 model I have previously tested.

Warranty 8.5?

This Crane humidifier comes with a 1-year warranty, which isn’t particularly impressive, as it aligns with the standard warranty policy offered by most humidifiers, especially those that are ultrasonic models.

Design and Sizing

ColorWhite&Blue; Clean&White; Grey; White
Size9"D x 13"W x 9"H
Tank Size3.8L
Weight3.58 lbs
TypeUltrasonic/Filterless

I’m drawn to this Crane humidifier, featuring a transparent water tank set on a white base, highlighted by small orange text. Its water-drop shape contributes to its overall elegance.

The manufacturer offers three additional color options for versatility, catering to various preferences and interior designs. However, I opted for the “clean & white” option, finding it to be the perfect fit for my aesthetic.

It consists of a base, a water tank, and a nozzle. The tube cover is detachable.

Given its size, this humidifier is of medium stature. With a water capacity of 3.79L (1 gallon), it is capable of running continuously for 24 hours.

It is best suited for placement on a table rather than on the floor. Due to its lightweight and not being very tall, there’s a risk of tripping over it if placed on the floor, posing a hazard to both you and your children

Cost

Price Range: $$$$$

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly humidifier, this one is definitely a good option. For the price of a simple humidifier, you get a machine that functions as four different devices.

Additionally, since this is a filterless humidifier, there are no ongoing costs associated with filter replacements.

What Set This Crane 4-in-1 Drop Cool Mist Humidifier Apart?

Removable mist channel cover – Very easy to clean

crane 4-in-1 humidifier review-removable mist tube

Maintaining a humidifier is crucial, especially for ultrasonic models. Apart from the diaphragm, the mist tube and water tank can accumulate significant residue, becoming breeding grounds for mold and bacteria.

I’ve tested a Homedics humidifier which performed well, except that the mist tube was very difficult to access and clean. Without using distilled water, the machine can easily become clogged, potentially ceasing to work after one or two seasons.

However, this humidifier features a unique design where the mist channel cover, or what you might call the tube wall, is detachable. I haven’t seen this design in other models yet. This feature is particularly beneficial for me, as it allows for easy cleaning with just a soft cloth.

Top Fill Design

crane 4-in-1 humidifier review-top fill

Traditionally, the water tank of a humidifier comes with a cap located at the bottom. Therefore, every time you need to refill it, you have to turn the tank upside down, which can cause some water in the base to spill.

Since this Crane 4-in-1 model features a top-fill design, I could easily add water directly from the top after removing the nozzle. This design significantly saved me time and effort by eliminating the hassle of water spilling on the table and the need to lift the tank.

Now, more and more models employ this feature. I have written a post about the best top-fill humidifiers for your reference.

Sound machine included

crane 4-in-1 humidifier review-sound machine

My sleep quality is generally good, so I don’t often use a sound machine, although I know many babies find it soothing. The sound machine function on this humidifier is independent, allowing you to use it without needing to activate the humidifier function.

As mentioned previously, both the sound type and volume are adjustable by pressing the corresponding button. Impressively, it can even remember the volume setting from the last time I used it.

Multiple color Nightlight

crane 4-in-1 humidifier review-nightlight

When reading the manual, it became clear that the manufacturer has carefully considered the needs of babies or individuals with sleep difficulties. In addition to the sound machine I mentioned earlier, it also features a colorful nightlight.

The default nightlight color is red, which, according to the manual, may promote better sleep. The device also offers an option to cycle through colors, changing every 10 seconds, or you can set it to remain on other specific colors, including green and blue.

Some children might find it interesting and enjoy having a nightlight on while falling asleep.

A nightlight is a common feature in humidifiers, but most models typically offer only a single-color option.

Other humidifiers to consider

If you’re still on the fence and interested in exploring additional options, I’ve chosen two alternatives for you. One has the capability to produce warm mist, catering to those who have a preference for it, and the other boasts a cute exterior, likely to appeal to children.

As mentioned, the humidification performance of the Crane 4-in-1 drop model isn’t particularly remarkable. These two models offer better performance.

For Warm/Cool Mist

LEVOIT LV600HH/S Smart Warm and Cool Mist Humidifier

This humidifier comes equipped with many advanced features. It is remote-controlled and capable of producing both warm and cool mist. It includes a filter to filter out more residues, and a built-in humidistat is also part of its design. Moreover, it boasts very good humidification performance. However, the price is also higher.

For Cute Exterior

This humidifier, also from Crane, has the same water tank size. Its functionalities are simpler, but it offers many cute animal-shaped exteriors, which are preferred by many kids. Additionally, the output is higher.

By now, you may have determined whether this model suits your needs. Personally, I quiet like this model.

Given its array of functionalities and affordable price, it stands out as an excellent option for those on a tight budget or in search of a humidifier for plants.

Additionally, it’s a great choice for individuals looking to enhance sleep quality, thanks to its sound machine, aroma tray and red nightlight, making it appealing to both children and the elderly.

It can help relieve dry skin; however, due to its relatively low output, it is more apt for small to medium-sized rooms.

At last, its hassle-free cleaning process makes it a perfect pick for anyone juggling a hectic schedule.
