Air Smartly Verdict
Efficient, elegant, and easy to use and clean, this Vornado EVDC500 is one of the best evaporative humidifiers we have tested.
But it may not be a perfect choice for very light sleepers because the light on the side and the on/off button can’t turn off at night.
Why you can trust this review: I purchased this Vornado EVDC500 humidifier with our own money, took pictures, and spent a few days testing it for its noise level, output, and humidification performance.
If you look at the humidifier industry today, it is easy to tell that ultrasonic humidifiers are more popular than evaporative humidifiers, even though evaporative humidifiers are known to be easier to maintain.
Vornado is a famous brand focusing on making evaporative humidifiers. Because I want to find a model that is suitable for large rooms, so I decided to give Vornaod EVDC500 model a try.
Does it meet all my needs? Is it a good fit for you? Let’s start to read this Vornado humidifier review!

Simple and elegant design
Due to the different technologies used, evaporative humidifiers tend to be bulkier than ultrasonic models. Evaporative models need a built-in fan to allow the water to evaporate, and the fan will take up some space.
While this Vornado humidifier is still not small, with a size of 12.2″H x 18.9″ W x 8.1″ D, the design of two water tanks on the side makes it look flat. Add to that the beautiful and low-key grey and white color, and as a result, it could easily blend with most decor styles.
I really like the combination of transparent tank, white air inlet grille, and grey power head. It looks much better than many old models from Vornado.
Easy to use
The control panel of this Vornado humidifier is located on the right of the power head. There are four buttons for you to choose the fan speed and set the humidity level.
I am not a tech-savvy person, but I will get the hang of it very soon. First, you should turn on the machine by pressing the power button in the middle.
By pressing the “+” or “-” button, you can adjust the humidity level from 40 to 60 or set it to “continuous mode.”
Meanwhile, you can use these two buttons to adjust the fan speed, but you need to press the “fan” button in advance. There are three fan speed modes: low, high, and turbo.
This EVDC500 model features Energy Smart technology, and you can use it by pressing the tree-shaped button on the right.
You will see an “ES” on the screen, indicating the mode is ON, and the humidifier will adjust the fan speed automatically according to the humidity level in the room.
When I first tested this function, I mistakenly thought what showed on the screen is “E5”, which is often an indicator of errors. But when I read the manual, I found that it is “ES,” representing “Energy Smart.”
Many people may ignore that there is a small black sensor beside the tree-shaped button. This sensor can detect the light around and adjust the brightness of the control display and light on the side.
It’s worth noting that the light of the control display and the light on the side on this device cannot be completely turned off at night, which may be a concern for individuals who are sensitive to light while sleeping.
Regarding refilling the water, it will not take much effort. Lift the water tank, turn it upside down, unscrew the lid, and then put it under the sink. You are all set.
If you plan to add a humidifier to your parent’s house, I think it could be a great option. They can figure out how to use it easily.
Easy to clean
Cleaning is the most troublesome issue for humidifier users. After using a few humidifiers, many of my friends only care about if the model is easy to clean because they don’t want to spend too much time on such a small gadget at home.
Luckily, this humidifier is very easy to clean and maintain. Since each water tank has a large opening, you can easily access the inner part.
By taking out the power head and grille, you can replace the wicks or clean the base. You can get this job done within a few minutes.
When the fan becomes filthy, you can use a Philip Head screwdriver to remove the outlet grille and use a soft cloth to wipe down the grime on the fan blades.
Simply put, you can clean each part of this humidifier easily, reducing the possibility of an awful smell. As you know, for most humidifiers, there would be some places in the humidifier that is extremely hard to reach, and they are the source of the smell.
It can adjust the fan speed automatically – 9 fan speed
As I mentioned above, this Vornado humidifier features energy-smart technology. Actually, the manufacturer claims that it can save up to 90% of energy.
It is not uncommon to see a humidifier these days automatically shut off when the room reaches a certain humidity level and active again when the humidity level increases.
However, this model features a 9-fan speed mode, which can adjust the fan speed automatically and gradually.
Vornado EVDC500 Humidifier Performance Test
Output
Because climate conditions vary across the country, you can have a better idea about the effectiveness of this humidifier by looking at its output. I turned on the “Turbo” mode and used a scale to calculate the output.
After one hour, the weight reduced from 5920g to 5670g, meaning that the output was 250ml, which is high.
Humidification performance
I put this Vornado in our lab room, which is 15m² (160 sq. ft), and turned on the “Turbo mode” to evaluate its performance by using the Govee smart hygrometer.
From the graph below, you can see that the humidity level increased from 41.7% to 56.3% in just one hour, which is impressive.
Based on the output and humidity level we tested, we are sure that it could be a great humidifier for large rooms.
Noise level (0.5 meters away from the machine)
Setting | Noise Level (dB) |
---|---|
Low | 49 |
High | 58 |
Turbo | 62 |
We test the noise level of each mode. While turbo mode is really powerful in improving moisture level, it is not a suitable choice for nighttime. You can change it to the low setting while sleeping, which would not be a problem for most people.
We also recorded a video to show you how noisy the machine would be in reality.
Long-term warranty
While this Vornado humidifier is slightly pricier than many ultrasonic humidifiers, it has a much longer warranty than its counterparts.
With a 10-year warranty for the motor and a 5-year warranty for the product, you can rest assured that this humidifier can serve you for a long time.
Sum up
This Vorndao EVDC500 Humidifier has a high output and great humidification performance, making it a good humidifier for large spaces. In addition, it is very easy to clean, which can save you a bunch of time.
While the turbo mode is a bit noisy, you can use the low mode at night. It may not be a suitable choice for light sleepers because the night light and display can’t completely shut off.
