Takeaway:
This evaporative humidifier packs advanced features like app control, self-cleaning, auto-drying, and top-fill design. While it manages to keep noise levels relatively low for an evaporative model, I did encounter some challenges when it came to cleaning the evaporator and fan. Additionally, I found that the self-cleaning and auto-drying features weren't as useful as expected. The output is moderate, and the price leans towards the higher side.
Why you can trust this review: I purchased this Smartmi Evaporative Humidifier 2 with our own money, took pictures, and spent two weeks testing it for its noise level, output, and humidification performance.
This is the second version of the Smartmi Evaporative humidifier, featuring added features such as an LED display, auto cleaning, and air drying. Intrigued by these unique additions in the realm of evaporative humidifiers, I decided to purchase it and put it to the test. Is it superior to traditional models? Let’s dive into my review together.
Smartmi Evaporative Humidifier 2 Ratings Breakdown
Design and Sizing
Mist Mode | Low, Medium, High, Auto |
Color | White |
Size | 9.45 x 14.29 x 9.45 in |
Tank Size | 4L |

The Smartmi Evaporative Humidifier 2 sports a regular cuboid design with a modest footprint, though it’s on the heavier side.
I advise you not to move it when it’s filled with water, as it can be quite heavy.
Available only in white, the unit features a sleek and modern aesthetic.
It consists of two main parts: the top and the tank.
The top section features a large air outlet, which also serves as the refill port. The fan, though not readily visible, is situated within the top part, accessible when the unit is inverted.
The air inlet is located at the back of the top part, housing the humidity sensor, while the display is positioned on the front.
Inside the water tank resides the evaporator, which rotates slowly when the machine is operational.
Overall, it’s a straightforward device in terms of design and functionality.
Cost
Price Range: $$$$$
While this humidifier comes with a hefty price tag upfront, it promises minimal ongoing expenses.
You won’t have to worry about frequent filter replacements or high energy bills, thanks to its low energy consumption and permanent evaporator.
However, despite its array of advanced features, its underwhelming humidification performance and the limited utility of some features makes me feel like I’ve paid a bit too much for what I get.
What Set This Smartmi Evaporativev 2 Humidifier Apart?
Permanent evaporator – no wick replacement needed
This Smartmi Evaporative Humidifier 2 comes with some promising features like self-cleaning and auto-drying. However, in my testing, I found that these features didn’t quite live up to expectations, so I won’t delve into them further here.
Let’s focus instead on the evaporator, which serves a similar purpose to the wick filter in traditional evaporative models.
When the unit is switched on, the evaporator rotates both horizontally and vertically, effectively expanding the evaporation area.
Made of plastic, it doesn’t absorb water like paper wick filters do. Instead, through rotation, water continuously adheres to the chip, attracting any buildup, dust, or dirt present in the water or from the surroundings.
I’ve noticed that the water tank of this model is more prone to contamination compared to others, likely due to its top-mounted air outlet and inlet, which make it easier for contaminants to enter.
The overall design resembles that of the Venta humidifiers, but with a single rotor, which may explain its relatively lower output.
By using this evaporator, you eliminate the need for wick replacements—a cost-saving benefit, considering that wicks can add up in price, especially with frequent use or when dealing with tap water.
However, it does require more time for cleaning, as the chips need to be removed and cleaned individually. Using RO or distilled water can help reduce cleaning frequency, although regular water replacement is still necessary.
It is app-controlled
These days, more and more models are compatible with Alexa and apps, but it’s more common to see this in ultrasonic humidifiers.
This evaporative humidifier can’t work with Alexa, but it can be controlled by its Mi Home app.
The app interface is very simple, displaying humidity and water level at the top. From there, I can turn on or off the cleaning mode, drying mode, and timer. I can also adjust the fan speed level and activate a child lock mode.
Currently, it offers two versions, which can be rotated for traditional style on the bottom.
I heard some users complain that it can’t set the target humidity level, which is weird. So I spent some time figuring out that it can be achieved by clicking “automation” and then “My scenes,” and setting an automation “when output humidity raises to a certain level, turn on or off this humidifier.”
Beyond that, it can send me a notification when the water level is low.
Other humidifiers to consider
When considering alternatives to this model, I assume you might be interested in other evaporative humidifiers.
So, I’ve chosen two models I’ve tested for your reference. One comes with a lower price tag, and offers better humidification performance, but fewer features. The other boasts an appealing aesthetic but has a smaller water tank.

This humidifier is a great option for those dealing with asthma or coughs, as it has a low likelihood of spreading bacteria in the air and is free of white dust.
If you’re someone who prefers using tap water in your humidifier, this is a good choice.
It’s also ideal for individuals who are tech-savvy or prefer easy control options.
However, it’s not the best choice for those on a budget or seeking a humidifier for large spaces. Additionally, if you’re someone who’s impatient or prefers low-maintenance appliances, this may not be the most suitable option.
