What Is Sleep Mode In AC & Its Benefits?

As technology advances, air conditioners are able to enhance our comfort more intelligently. We can choose different modes according to various factors. There is a sleep mode in many air conditioner models, but not everyone has a clue what it is.

Hence, I come up with this post to tell you everything you need to know about sleep mode in AC. If you can use it in the correct way, you can reap a lot of benefits.

Without further ado, let’s dive in!

What is sleep mode in AC & how does it work?

Sleep mode in an air conditioner is a feature that automatically adjusts the temperature and humidity to help us sleep better.

This is because our body temperature and state will change when we fall asleep. Generally, our body temperature will be 1 to 2 degrees lower than in the daytime and will start to rise again when we are going to wake up. Meanwhile, the outside temperature will decrease at night.

As a result, we don’t require as much cooling from our AC at night as we do during the day. The AC can change the temperature settings based on it.

For example, when the sleep mode is enabled, the Samsung air conditioner will lower the temperature and then raise the temperature by 1-2° C from the set temperature.

Finally, it will raise the temperature to 3° C above the set temperature, allowing us to comfortably wake up. Other brands’ models may perform slightly differently.

Some air conditioners include a motion sensor that detects your movement and determines whether the temperature should be increased or decreased. For example, if you sleep peacefully, your air conditioner will gradually raise the temperature.

ECO mode also uses motion sensors and lowers the temperature when you are not at home.

Benefits of using a sleep mode

The more modes the AC has, the more expensive it will be. If you’re on the fence about purchasing an air conditioner with a sleep mode, consider the advantages.

Sleep better

Since the sleep mode adjusts settings according to our body temperature change at night, we can expect to sleep better. While our sleep quality will enhance in cold rooms, we don’t like to sleep in an icing cold environment either.

This mode ensures that the room is cold but not too cold for us. It also aids in the prevention of catching a cold.

Beyond that, the temperature will rise in the morning, allowing us to walk up in comfort.

Save energy

During the night, the air conditioner will raise the temperature. That is, the compressor does not have to work as hard to generate cold air. As a result, it will consume less power when compared to the cool mode.

Extend its lifespan

When the sleep mode is activated, the compressor can work at a low intensity or even rest during the night. It can last longer because it has less tear and wears.

Drawbacks of using a sleep mode

While sleep mode has many benefits, it does have some disadvantages.

Not for the sensitive sleeper

Some people are extremely sensitive to temperature or environmental changes. If the temperature changes during the night, they are prone to waking up. If this is the case, staying in cool mode is the better option.

Higher price

You don’t have to buy an air conditioner with this mode if you’re on a tight budget and the night in your area isn’t too hot. The machine with this mode may be more expensive, even if the difference has been reduced over time.

Alternatively, you can save even more money by using the fan mode or the ceiling fan at night.

When to use the sleep mode in AC?

As the name implies, the best time to use this mode is when you are falling asleep. It could be at night or whenever you want to sleep.

Turning on the sleep mode is not necessary if you only want to take a short nap, such as a half-hour nap, because the mode will only raise the temperature after one or two hours. In this case, you can’t tell the difference.

How to turn off sleep mode in the air conditioner?

There are two ways to do that.

1. Turn off the mode by pressing the button on the remote control.

2. Set a timer on the remote, and the sleep mode will turn off automatically.

Sum up

When you fiddle with the AC remote control, you may find a moon icon, and you don’t know what this ac symbol means.

This is the symbol for the sleep mode, which will regulate your body temperature while you sleep.

It gradually raises the temperature, which not only saves energy but also allows you to sleep better.

You can try it tonight if your air conditioner has this mode. Perhaps you’ll wake up in a better mood.
